I saw the new year in stylishly, having fun with my friends in the way we know best; alcohol, lolly pops, giggles. Now I have copious photos and bruises to remember it. Thanks Tom for another fabulous party which was drama free and I spent with people I actually enjoy spending time with! Thank God.
So here I am again - new year with new promises to myself I wont keep, new resolutions which will last about as long as it takes for me to put them into action.
Only I suppose this year really is new. I have new people in my life, new places and new memories. They say a year older, a year wiser and I hope so. Last year I learnt that everything in life changes - there are very few consistencies. This can be for better or for worse, but whatever it is, it wont last either. I also learnt that you can overcome anything with the right loved ones, given enough time and space. Onwards and Upwards? I’ll drink to that!

Being home really is fabulous but I have missed uni - I called a flat mate up when a favourite song of his was playing and hearing him yell “OH MY GOD ITS AMAZING!” made me realise how much I love my new friends and life. However I am looking forward to meeting up in London on the 8th for lunch and shopping, giggles and I have no doubt lots of getting lost.

I also am going to see the absolutly AMAZING Julia Nunes in concert on the 8th which I am SO EXCITED ABOUT IT I HAVE TO TYPE IN CAPITAL LETTERS TO TRY AND CONVEY MY EXCITEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!! There will be videos.

Thats all for now folks

My life is now boxed and ready to be relocated; summer officially ends fairly soon and a my Uni adventure begins! Its been a fantastic summer, and I’ve learnt alot about myself, about my friends and about life in general.
I’ve faced down a few demons, and found that I’m actually a lot more emotionally stable than I give myself credit for.
I’ve strengthened friendships and I’ve lost a few.
I learnt that everything changes - for better or worse -and that resisting this is too much like swimming against the tide; you’ll only wear yourself out and it will happen just the same.

I hope me and my friend all manage to maintain contact through the millions of channels availiable - I’m gonna miss you guys. I’m gonna try and keep up blogging for my sake if for no one elses.

So there isnt alot else to say apart from good luck everyone in your futures! May they be bright, sunny and successful whatever path you choose

Lesson Number 1: Foam parties are all well and good, but being 4 foot 11 gives you a serious disadvantage and makes being crushed a lot more likely and getting lost in the crowd also more hazardous.

Lesson Number 2: Do not put frying pans in the microwave. They are made of metal and of plastic (well ours has a plastic handle) and whilst the metel doesn’t heat up that much, the plastic does and this gets very very very very very hot. So hot that when you grab said handle you’ll probably end up burning the palm of your hand.

As everyone does, I have both religious and non religious friends and family, and on both counts I know those who hold fairly strong views about either atheists and theists.

I’ve mostly been of the opinion “If it aint hurting me or being pushed in my face, I’m not bothered about what you do or do not believe” and I’ve tried to maintain that in the various discussions I’ve had. On youtube there is an obvious community of polytheists, atheists, agnostics and theists from all walks of life and invariably they argue.
There is one atheist user who I personally find repulsive. I quote his description
“I am an atheist and virulent anti-theist as well as a major advocate of freedom, even when said freedom is unpopular due to the general myopia of the public when giving such issues their due consideration.”
If you feel the need to go watch this ranting and raving bearded man for yourself, Go For It. I recommend all 6 (to date) “Just about Sick…” or my personal favourite “Re: Is rape actually wrong?”

Why someone has to be an anti-theist has eluded me due to my “live and let live” opinion. Whilst religion has never made sense to me, no one can deny it does help many people, just as much as no one can deny it causes a lot of pain and suffering. However, despite my utter disgust at the self professed “amazing atheist” Having watched the video I included above, I am beginning to understand why people are frustrated with religion being increasingly used as an infallible weapon in discussion. Yes, religion should be considered on certain issues - its part of the experience of humanity and so to ignore it would be just as ridiculous as using it solely as the basis for decision in these larger issues (I’m talking about the abortion laws etc) but it should not be used as an argument to end all arguments without need for explanation. In primary and high school I know we joked about the magical words “its against my religion” validating any of our actions. For example

“Did you do the maths homework?”
“Oh crap! I forgot. Oh well I’ll just say its against my religion.”

Yes, a flippant example but to me it does seem that many people do believe that just because something they believe in is part of their religious beliefs, everyone should also comply. I’ll admit to being cautious when talking about this kind of thing for fear of offending people, but I guess I’ve never really thought about theists offending me, which has obviously happened. Yet it also concerns me that both theists and atheists are becoming more and more extremist in thought and the way the express these thoughts and seem to have less time for each other as human beings rather than the ideas they might stand for. As Shakespeare said through Shylock in The Merchant of Venice “If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die?”

Well yesterday I was rick rolled by youtube, convinced they found flying penguins by the bbc and told “I herd you liek mudkips?” by Deviant. Yes naturally it was 1st April, the day when the world gets just a little but more fun for a whole 12 hours. Then it goes back to being boring old normal.

Anyway, April is my birthday month (woo) so very soon I will be turning magical 18, although that magical 18 has lost alot of magic now people drink a lot earlier on, and kids grow up a lot faster - I feel like an old man saying stuff like that but its true, you do have to grow up faster now what with the internet showing you how great adult life is and what with pre-teens dressing like post-teens and the post-teens dressing like pre-teens. I mean you see parents dressing their young girls in tiny mini-skirts (yes with cute coloured tights on) and with t-shirts that have slogans like “Cute and I know it” or “Warning: I have attitude” and its like, where did the winnie the poo t-shirts go?! Where did the tops with kittens and puppies go?
Anyway, Old man moment over.

I curse the day I found Stumble video. Its so easy now to click that little button and I can find so many videos of ponies and funny candid camera programmes - I tell you its a curse to be so lacking in the concentration department.

I think this video, discussing humans as Dumb Monkeys has a lot of harsh home truths, and I really enjoyed it.
If I knew nothing about human nature, I’d hope that somepeople would see this, take a long hard look at themselves and the world around you and change, but we all know evolution takes millions of years so I’m not counting on it any time soon.

P.s - I have a question if anyone can help me. Why are there only one subspecies of human? like, you got birds, but then you got robins and magpies, but with humans, you just got humans.

There once was a teenage girl called Kat
(She’s the author of this blog - you should know that!)
Kat enjoys buying wonderful new tops
Especially ones from those new online shops
For a party, the perfect one she found
It was gold and lacy, which suited her too the ground
However at home she was completely non-plussed
To find the hem on the sleeve had bust!
Luckily her mum came to her aid in this glitch
“don’t worry my dear, it can be fixed with a stitch”
And so stitched she did, and Kat partied all night
But when the top was washed, along came another fright!
The top had been shrunk and was all out of wack
When Kat put it on it it looked like a sack
She was distraught, upset and stunned
Would the shop take it back and give her a refund?
Well the story must be left hanging in mid air
As only time will end this dastardly affair

So I hope you enjoyed this little ditty
But please be kind and leave me some pity

I’m starting to feel a bit self concious now about blogging about tv - I swear to god its not the only thing I do.

I just got bored of watching “Lilly Allen and Friends”, a tv chat show which premise seems to be “get the audience to write it for us and we’ll headline it with Lilly Allen cos she can sing good and is amusing”
The whole of the first episode seemed to be “here is an example of what we like, but we want you to send it in for us!” - eg, video clips of animals fucking (yes, ok, so they are strangely and wrongly amusing). They also got David Mitchell on and did a fairly bland interview, at which point I switched off.
In the beginning Lilly (I keep wanting to spell that with an e…I don’t know why) Allen (I also feel uncomfortable calling celebraties by their first name even though you know who I mean - I’m not friends with her and so it seems weird.) asked members of the audience to relay a funny and embarrassing story about themselves, and its always fun watching people sell their dignity for a small moment of telly time, but when she said their names, none of them even tried to pretend to be shocked - it was clearly rehearsed and that takes the fun out of the whole situation. Its far less humiliating!
I have to say I’m disappointed - I’ve thought Lilly Allen was funny and I like her music, but her show just felt very scripted. Maybe I’m being mean - she’s not a comedian really and this is the first episode and I couldn’t do better but I’m not going to be watching that again.
I’m also not going to watch it because its a bad influence and got me hurt; L.A (there, less letters…which I’ve just added by typing this…) can fit her fist in her mouth, and it looked fairly easy and I though “well everyone is always telling me I’ve got a big gob…” (despite being told by numerous dentists I have a very small mouth and have had to have a lot of teeth removed to ensure I don’t end up looking like I bought t-rex dentures) and yes, I stupidly tried…and failed, but in the process I managed to split the corner of my mouth. So now it hurts - stupid me.

Everybody loves the story of the three little pigs - what could be cuter than pigs in building hats?! Well obviously not. I was pointed to this article by Simon, saying how the Three Little Pigs

“could not [be] recommended - to the Muslim community”.
- also - the story might ‘alienate parts of the workforce (building trade)’.

It went on to say
“Is it true that all builders are cowboys, builders get their work blown down, and builders are like pigs?”

Well actually when you look at some builders bums you do begin to wonder…
But seriously, next thing they’ll be saying is Cinderella is not suitable because of people who don’t have any shoes to loose, and what about snow white - adulterous bitch - 7 men?! What kind of a message is that giving?
This story actually made my blood boil. Honestly, what kind of madness is this that my children and my children’s children may not grow up with the legendary phrase “not by the hairs of our chinny chin chins, we will not let you in”
I’m all for cultural diversity, but can we please be sensible and think how many builders and Muslims have actually complained about this harmless children’s story - I think its an insult to these groups to believe they would be so petty.

In other news which isn’t
The coffee which makes you fat
and in reply I say
No shit sherlock, coffee, with cream, full fat milk, lard, chocolate syrup, chocolate sprinkles and marshmallows with a muffin has a lot of calories in?
*eye rolling*

Had my General studies exam today, and cleverly managed to get ‘teacup’ into my answer in which we had to respond to the arrest of tree huggers who had been camped out in a tree which was to be knocked down for the development of houses (I kid you not, that was the situation we were given, and we had to identify the problem, whose fault it was and what to do about it…) I said that it was
“Irresponsible and hypocritical to leave litter such as crisp packets, cans and teacups, laying around as these could all be environmental hazards.”
I also gave my examiner a little :) and a “Have a Nice Day” at the end of the paper.

There I was struggling away with a history essay when I realised; oooh, I could make a blog post. So, would you look at that I am! Procrastination Queen, that’s me; when the going gets tough, do something else for a while until you absolutly have to go back and face it again. The title is “which of these sources is most useful as evidence for the way in which bladi bladi bla” and all I can think of is that sesame street song “which of these things is not like the other, one of these things just isn’t the same…” and then….”oooh evidence; I have a CSI recorded and waiting for me!”
It amazing how quickly you forget to do things, like write a clear, succinct essay with valid points and a flowing argument. You can spend your whole schooling life trying to hone the technique to perfection, and yet two weeks after not doing it and its like beating your head on a wall. Such is life’s continuous uphill struggle. *sigh*
Its also amazing how much you can get done when you’re avoiding something. Things you never knew needed to be done, but now that they are your life feels a little more complete; I’ve uploaded photos to facebook and carefully tagged everyone in it, giving each on a witty caption. I’ve organised iTunes again. I’ve drunk 3 pints of tea (I know its 3 pints - the massive ’starbucks’ mug I own contains one pint and I’ve drunk 3; I did the math!)
On other totally unrelated things, I’m looking for a new theme. I’ve got one or two lined up mentally, but my favourate currently isn’t really working (isn’t it always the way!) and Its gonna need customisation anyway because the header is a bit dull. So, watch this space!
Ok, I don’t think I can put it off any more…
Back the essay
