I was browsing the BBC for post content and I found the most disastrous thing yet. Screw the war on terror, screw global warming. The bee’s are dying.
I’m not joking! This is bad bad stuff…
Watch for yourself
The reason why this does actually make me more than neutral (I don’t mean concerned…but I can’t think of a lesser word) is because alot of people seem to be spending a lot of money on saving the little critters. Albert Einstein once said: “If the bee disappears from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live. No more bees, no more pollination … no more men!”
And if Einstein says it I’m inclined to give it some weight - he was a pretty smart guy from what I hear.
So the BBC report gives the bees 10 years, which gives humanity 14 years - so till 2022. I think we should act now people - go support bee keepers and buy some honey!

3 blog posts just about celebrating me not dying for another year? Is that a bit ridiculous?!
NO :P
Well another year older, another year wiser and all that jazz - I thought I’d wake up and like, have some light bulb epiphany about life, its meaning and what I’m supposed to do with it…turns out that doesn’t happen. Damn, I guess I’ll have to stick to using the 8-ball (or actually, the little yes-no lady that tom brought me who handily nods or shakes her head when asked questions.)
I got a snazzy new watch today which has a solar powered battery - get me and my planet saving gadgets. Now I have no valid excuse to be late :( (well when I get it anyway - I’m not allowed it till the weekend when the grandparents can officially give it to me.)

Normally when your friends make you cry on your birthday its time to find new ones, but on this occasion its the reason why I’m going to hold on to them as tightly as I can.
Yesterday I was absolutly surprised when I was ushered forcefully into the living room and presented with a massive pink book entitled The story so far…. It turns out my dearest friends Kirstin and Gemma had been working (through the night sometimes) to create me a wonderful book full of great photographs. So thank you so much to them - and thank you to everyone who wrote in it (so far, I hear there are more to come…) and kept it a secret.
The party seemed to be a success - I know I had a wicked time. Everyone had AMAZING costumes and I was so impressed by the obvious effort some people had gone to. Awesome stuff guys, it made it just that little bit special.
Also thank you so much to those who got me gifts, they were all really thoughtful and I was really touched by them :)
Only the matter of some black lines on my white bedroom walls to clear up and my beloved Roald Dahl books to dry off and it was a perfect party as far as I’m concerned.
Thanks :D

Holy crap the day is soon to be upon me!
Oh dear…I have a lot of tidying up to do in preparation for the festivities, and naturally a sizeable amount of alcohol to buy (and punches to prepare) and the distribution of glow sticks, banners, party-poppers and all other associated paraphernalia.
Let the good times roll on!

Last Sunday me and riding buddy Sophie braved the cross country (XC) course for the first time this season. I was, to not put too finer point on it, shitting myself. I was so scared I was actually shaking - but I needn’t have been! Saxon loves it so much and is so good that after the first 3 jumps I was totally relaxed and loving every minute, such an awesome pony.
The third jump that we did was called the “Step and Palisade” and it actually featured in the pre novice class this year (it goes intro -> pre novice -> novice -> intermediate) so its not a beginners fence and it looks terrifying!

The uphill-ness of it means that you pretty much have to let the horse gallop after the step up. Me and Sophie both took one look at it and said “no”. Our instructor said yes…and made me do it after Sophie fell off (great confidence boost - first time XC since I broke my bone and he’s making me throw myself up a step, hill, jump.) But, bless little Saxon, after I went up to it and turned him away from it we went again a second time and aced it no problems. That feeling going up that hill was amazing - I actually did a happy scream and shook my fist like I would in a film.
So anyway, Sophie’s photographically talented sister came out and took some photo’s so hopefully I’ll get them posted up on another page if anyone is interested (but I expect not somehow :P)

A delightful new programme has begum on telly - Pushing Daisy’s. I watched the first episode and was truly enchanted by the bright colours and quirky style - it very much reminded me of one of my favourite films ever; Le Fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain, AKA Amélie. The characters all seem interesting, with each one playing a very specific role, even if that role is not initially obvious. I love the narrator and the precise date/time theme which runs through it. I also love love love the dialogue, with my favourite line so far being “That’s not weird, its just symmetrical.”. It looks set to be a fun series and I can’t wait to see more!

I assume most people have already seen this video, but for clarity I thought I’d include it in this post. This student’s arrest not only spawned the internet phrase “Don’t tase me bro” but also my interest in tasers; not the actual weopon, but the use of them by the police. Whilst I think that they are a good idea for officers to use in place of guns as the incidence of death when used correctly seems logically to be less (although I don’t know actual figures - just using some common sense). Also it seems like a good way to subdue the suspect by forcing muscles to twitch uncontrollably as it allows officers to then cuff etc the suspect.
However I absolutly abhor the idea of the “Drive Stun” function. An LA police document says “The Drive Stun causes significant localized pain in the area touched by the Taser, but does not have a significant effect on the central nervous system” Its used for a law enforcement technique know as ‘pain compliance’ which usually refers to the manipulation of joints or the use of pressure points to subdue a victim - whilst this is not a pleasant idea it is naturally necessary as officers will often be faced with suspects who try to avoid arrest through struggle and force will naturally be needed. However allowing the police force to use a taser in the drive stun method (which involves simply touching the taser to the suspects skin.) seems wrong to me. For one, it is so easy to poke someone with it that officers may become ‘taser-happy’ so to speak - According to the analysis of the first 900 police Taser incidents by the Houston Chronicle, no crime was being committed and no person was charged in 350 of those cases. Also, because a taser is referred to as a ‘less than lethal weapon’, officers may not be aware or may not consider the true damage that can be caused. Further more, tasers do not have automatic stop’s - and I assume this means they can be continuously fired which doesn’t sound very clever considering the human body can only take so much electric shocking.
I also can’t settle the idea of the police using pain compliance - I can understand its use with like pressure points, but when weapons become involved it seems to me that the abuse rates will rocket (but I guess I have no actual proof of that - just a gut feeling) To me tasering someone to make them shut up sounds like torture.

Yay the apprentice is back (although quite how many apprentice’s Sir Alan will hire on the programme yet subsequently fire later on in is yet to be seen…) This year all the candidates are utter utter arses; the boys are clearly divided into rugged, (handsome) doers and the annoying wingers. The girls seem to be either Psycho bitches or backstabbing bitches - although there does seem to be one genuinely nice woman (Helene Speight I believe her name is) They also all appear to be slightly feckless - I’ve found myself cringing more in these last two episodes than I did in four of the last series.
The second I saw the candidate Kevin Shaw, I was stunned - surely this is a joke! Was that Matt Lucas as Daffyd? Oh no…my mistake…

The latest task - “pub grub” (as named by Sir Alan himself. When writing that I feel like his first name is Sir, second name Alan…peculiar) was amusing but the winners were predictable
I do have to questions someone’s intelligence when the psudo head chef decides to use half pizzas in the place of whole when supplies get low (because no one will notice), and equally I have to question the authenticity of the girls bollywood dancer who seemed to be stripping…

The horrible demon that was the Irish coursework has finally been destroyed and now I care no more. Thank Fuck!
Now all I have to do is my english coursework…oh and revision…and NVQ folder work which has been much neglected…
Due to a slightly misjudged dismount, my back now feels all jarred and decrepit - I tell you riding the horse isn’t the dangerous part, its when you get down that you gotta watch out. I hope its better by Sunday because I’m doing a cross country lesson hopefully :D Will be great to get back out there on the course - had so much fun last time. Maybe I’ll even get some photos from my riding buddies sister…
